One way that resource equality is not enough is that students in lower socioeconomic households typically have parents whose literacy levels are not as high as those in higher socioeconomic households, thus they are not exposed to the same level of resources (being read to, having a variety of books). Interventions for these students need to start at an earlier age, not just the pre-kindergarten programs that are common throughout the country. 
  2. I think one of the most important things teachers need to be aware of is the differences between ours students home lives. Students come from all different socioeconomic backgrounds, with family members at home doing their best. They may have support at home with their schooling, or they could be responsible for caring for other family members when they get home from school. Building strong communication between school and home is the best way to support students and families.
