Ineffective supervision can lead to clients not receiving the best interventions possible, or may get interventions based on punishment or behavior reduction without giving the client a replacement behavior to meet their needs.

Ineffective supervision could lead to unprofessional behavior. In a supervisee, look for professional skills, problem solving skills, ethical behavior and the inability to ask for assistance. If any of these are present, supervision may be ineffective.
